Maximize Your Brush’s Longevity with These Simple Steps:
Once you’ve figured out the kind of brushes you need, ordered them, and they have arrived to your working space, there are a few simple things to be aware of when it comes to storing them properly. If you care for your brushes when they’re not in use, you will extend the life of the products and maximize their working potential so they continue to function optimally for their designed purpose long after purchase.
1) Packed with Care: In general, it is best to store your brushes in their original packaging when they are not being utilized. Orient the package so that brushes can remain flat during storage; this will prevent the filaments from receiving undue pressure and becoming damaged.
2) Attention to Moisture and Temperature: Store brushes in a dark, cool, dry environment. Some brushes are designed for use in hot or wet tasks, but this is still a good rule for storing any type of brush and filament when not in use.
- With metal brushes, moisture can affect the filaments.
- With natural-hair brushes, excessive heat or direct sunlight can cause them to dry out.
- If your brushes are stored outside, regular exposure to ultraviolet light from the sun can degrade the bristles and cause them to become brittle.
NOTE: If you require brushes for outdoor use, talk to one of our specialists about requesting UV-additive treated brush filaments so they will last longer.
3) Avoid Filament Damage: Don’t stack anything heavy on top of your brushes or brush packages; this can bend or deform the filaments. When filament is in a prolonged bent position, it can become set. Sometimes, the brush can be rehabilitated with hot water or gentle agitation, but it is best to avoid filament damage from the start.
4) Take Care with Brush Removal: When taking brushes out of their original packaging for use, give some attention to removing them carefully. Sometimes pulling out one brush that is seated next to another can cause the filaments can get entangled, or sandwiched between the other brush and the cardboard, resulting in bent filaments. We also recommend that you always pull a brush from the top of the box, never from the middle. If you grab them out haphazardly, filament damage is more likely to occur.
